Green Action is an international youth exchange that took place in Poiana Negrii, a beautiful mountain village situated in the North of Romania, part of the historical region Bucovina. For 9 working days between 5 and 15 October 2014, a total of 38 young people from Poland, Romania, Macedonia, Estonia and Italy met in order to share experiences, learn and focus on realistic actions that promote ecology and raise awareness about harmful impact of man against the environment. Participants acknowledged the importance of good practices in ecology by doing concrete actions in remote mountainous and rural areas of the region, using methods specific to the non-formal education field and working as a team through values such as multiculturalism and mutual respect.
The aim of our project was to establish links between participants and locals, which may become aware of how it is possible to preserve the natural environment and reduce harmful practices after we triggered their attention through the specially designed Green Actions (cleaning, flashmob). The main objectives of this youth exchange were the realization of a variety of Green Actions meant to promote and underline good practices that have a direct impact on the local people’s mentality and behavior, the interaction between the participants and youngsters from the local communities and the involvement of local authorities and other stake-holders as part of activities in the preparation, implementation and follow-up phases.
